In one of the stories about the Patriarchs, Jacob gives the following command to his son, Joseph: “Go now, see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock.” (Gen 7:14) In that spirit, I have always felt obliged to inform my sending church and the larger audience about my official visits to other countries and communities. With the support of the Lutheran World Federation, the publisher is now offering an English-language selection of these travel reports to international readers. The topics chosen and the approach taken always reflect my ecumenical commitment. I truly hope that the writings in this book will serve the visible unity of the churches.
